When did it all begin.
Tom’s 4 Wheel Drive began over 38 years ago when Tom Fritts had a vision to start a tire business to serve his hometown folks. Tom's Tire was a hot spot for many years eventually becoming one of the largest sellers of tires in North Carolina. It is estimated that Tom sold over 100 tires daily totalling more than 1 1/2 million tires in his 35 years of service. Tom's two sons David and Dennis loved working on and lifting 4 wheel drive trucks, so Tom decided to expand his business in 1979 by opening a 4 Wheel Drive shop next to the tire store and letting the two boys run it. It was appropriately named Tom's 4 Wheel Drive. The new 4 Wheel Drive business was a success and continued to grow over the next 14 years. David, who also enjoyed fishing, eventually won the 1993 National Bassmasters Championship and decided to leave the business to pursue his love of fishing and continue the tournament circuit. David's cousin and Tom's nephew Conrad Fritts took over managing Tom's 4 Wheel Drive and eventually bought the business that same year. Conrad decided to keep the Tom's name since it was already a respected and established icon throughout the United States. In 2001 Tom Fritts retired and son Dennis took over Tom's Tire for the next couple of years. In 2005 Tom's 4 Wheel Drive expanded and absorbed the tire shop into the 4 Wheel Drive business. With this expansion a brand new 60,000 square foot facility was built on the old location of Tom's Tire to accomodate the much needed warehouse space, shipping department, retail/wholesale sales and large customer showroom. Tom's new facility is state of the art and offers our walk in customers a large spacious showroom with plenty of product displays, ideas and choices. Our professional sales staff is available to help the customer with knowledgable advice, answer questions, or to offer technical assistance if needed. Tom's 4 Wheel Drive has an on site installation facility to better serve our customers. Our installers have been here for over 25 years installing parts and accessories and offer our customers a level of expertise and experience unmatch in the industry. We install auto parts and accessories every single day and work hand in hand with our manufacturers to ensure our customers the very best in safety and satisfaction.
